Dear Wealden resident,
May has arrived and Wealden is looking as beautiful as ever with bluebells in full bloom.🪻 I was pleased to recently visit and support the Arlington Bluebell Walk, a fantastic local gem hidden in ancient woodland, attracting many visitors every year and raising funds for local charities. It is open daily until 14th May and is also suitable for wheelchair users. For more information, click 👉🏽 here.
April was a busy month, and brought in the start of some of the changes announced in the Spring Budget, including:
✅ National Insurance cuts for workers
✅ National Living Wage increased to £11.44
✅ 15-hours free childcare for over 2-year-olds
✅ State pension increase
We also had some fantastic news locally regarding additional school, road and community funding.
🎓 Beacon Academy in Crowborough and Uplands Academy in Wadhurst were successful in securing further support from the Department for Education's Condition Improvement Fund. Read more 👉🏽 here.
🛣️ Frant, Groombridge and Uckfield roads will benefit from the nationwide programme of pothole repairs and road resurfacing projects, made possible by the first tranche of £8.3 billion in reallocated HS2 funding. Read more 👉🏽 here.
🌳 Town and parish councils, as well as not-for-profit organisations across Wealden can now apply for grants for rural community projects, made available through over £120,000 Government support and delivered by Wealden District Council. For more details, click 👉🏽 here.

🗣️ Have your say! Take part in my Transport Survey 🚗
I know from my regular surgeries and casework that potholes and road standards are one of the biggest concerns locally. I'm proud that we have had some great successes over the past couple of years, with accessibility upgrades to Crowborough and Eridge rail stations, additional funding for pothole repairs, £2 single bus journey cap, and additional funding for improvements to bus services across East Sussex.
However, securing more funding to ensure better infrastructure, reliable services and better transport accessibility and connectivity remains one of my priorities and I'm always keen to hear your concerns, which allows me to better represent your views and put forward a stronger case for additional resources for Wealden during meetings with local authorities and Government departments.
